Astrology and Love
There a few questions that people ask me when they find out I’m an astrologer and the main two are these: so which sign should I be with? Followed by, how did you get into all this?
The answer to the first is, it’s not just about your star sign and the answer to the second is, because I noted patterns in my relationships…
You may have heard people talk about your rising sign, ascendent or rising star. When I found my rising sign was Gemini it was like a penny dropping in an arcade machine that lead to 100 more pennies cascading soon after. Winner! I sent texts, emails, facebook messages to all my ex-boyfriends and very best friends asking them what time they were born the pattern that emerged was startling. A solid 90% of them were Rising Scorpio.
Imputing times and dates of birth into the computer and waiting for the results was like waiting for big exam results. Every time I saw “rising scorpio” I knew I was thrilled and bemused but knew that I had to learn more because I was onto something. If you want to know how I spent my twenties, that is it. Meet, greet, ask time of birth and Google.
How does this help you? My obsession with people and relationships means I have spent a huge amount of time looking at what works, who matches and what to look out for. Without going into too much detail, here are some key things to know.
1. Your sun sign is also known as your star sign
Your star sign is connected to our sun and is linked to ‘personality’ and ego, the type of person you want to become. It is helpful if your sun sign aligns with your partners sun sign but it is absolutely not the most important thing to look out for.
2. Alignment, it’s elementary.
There are four elements in western astrology; fire, earth, air and water. The fire signs are Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. Earth are Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. Air are Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. Water are Cancer, Pisces and Scorpio. The rule of thumb is that people of the same element work very well together and “get” each other. Fire signs love action, drama and seek to entertain and be entertained. Earth signs tend to value security, routine and ownership of quality things. Air signs love to talk, think, read and discuss. Water signs are emotional, sensitive and nurturing. Whilst there can be too much of a good thing, we have a sense of kinship towards those who share our element.
3. Opposites Attract.
The zodiac is a wheel and the opposite of every fire sign is an air sign, whilst the opposite of every earth sign is a water sign. Fire and air are both generally extroverted whilst earth and water are more introverted. For this reason it is very common to see Aries loving Libra, Taurus with Scorpio, Gemini with Sagittarius, Cancer together with Capricorn, Leo with Aquarius or Virgo drawn towards Pisces. Astrologers say that these signs are “different sides of the same coin” whereby these people approach life in a different but complementary way.
4. You are my Sunshine.
In my experience of relationships I have seen that it is very easy to be friends with someone you share an element with, but the old adage “opposites attract” does work very well with lovers. An Aries and Leo in love is full of fire and passion but this can be too hot to handle! The compromising, rational nature of air signs is helpful for the feisty fire signs. However, a pride of Lions will stick together and earth signs luxuriate in the security of each other. There is genuinely no hard and fast rule and do not get hung up on the sun sign combinations because we have the rest of the planets in the sky sky to consider!
3. Where is the Moon?
Your horoscope is simply a photograph of the sky taken at the moment you were born, this includes all the planets in our solar system and includes the Sun and Moon as “planets.” Each of these planets falls under the jurisdiction of a zodiac sign, whereby the zodiac wheel is simply a way of mapping out the 360 degree circumference of our solar system. Under whose jurisdiction was the Moon when you were born? Sensitive Cancer, chatty Gemini or hardworking Capricorn? Knowing this is fundamental to knowing who you are deep down as the Moon is connected to our emotions and our sense of security. It is your moon sign that falls deeply in love and it is your moon that facilitates emotional attachments to others.
Your moon sign placement will interact elementally with the sun and moon signs of those you are in relationships with. For example, if you are a Pisces in love with a Leo and fear it is a mismatch, do not panic! If you have the Moon in Aquarius then there is a natural, powerful and lasting connection between the two of you.
4. Astrology speaks.
I hope your life is rich with relationships between family, friends and lovers. I can guarantee you that if there is someone with whom you share a very special chemistry, there will be strong connections between your natal chart and theirs. That is a promise.
5. Men are from Mars and women are from Venus.
I have a tendency to overshare and do not want to confuse you, but let me mention this. Venus and Mars are the “love and sex” planets, expect to some elemental connections between these planets if you are in lurve.
6. Numbers are everything.
As I already mentioned, each degree in the 360 degree circumference of our solar system is marked out by a degree of the zodiac. Beginning with 0 Aries we move through each sign until the story ends with 29 degrees Pisces. More than just having a relationship match between two planets in Gemini, lovers will share placements within degrees of each other. For example Mr Love may have his Sun at 7 degrees of Gemini and Miss Love may have her Moon at 9 degrees of Gemini. When this couple meet you would expect sparks to fly (and also lots of texts, letters and conversations due to the fact that Gemini loves to talk!)
Astrology is brilliant, but I personally feel that it comes into full power when we start to explore our relationships. We only really learn about ourselves by the ways in which we interact with others.
